The fifth snowstorm to hit Maine over the past nine days has again put a damper on high school basketball action.

Wednesday’s Class B South girls preliminary matchup pitting No. 9 Lisbon at No. 8 Freeport was postponed to today at 6 p.m.

Also in Class C South boys action, ninth-seeded Wiscasset will now head to No. 8 Searsport for a prelim matchup today, with tip slated for 6 p.m.

Of note, Lisbon has called off school for today, while Wiscasset, as of press time, had a two-hour delay.

One game did take place on Wednesday, with Pine Tree Academy of Freeport heading north to face Islesboro in a boys Class D South matchup.

The visiting Breakers came away with a 60-54 victory.

The Maine Principals Association postponed Wednesday’s sessions in Augusta and Portland.

Today’s’ AA basketball slate is a busy one. At the Augusta Civic Center, the Cheverus-Bangor girls quarterfinal kicks things off at 4 p.m., followed by Deering meeting Lewiston at 5:30 p.m. Boys quarterfinal play follows, with Cheverus taking on Oxford Hills at 7 p.m., and Deering meeting up with Windham at 8:30 p.m.

At the Portland Expo today, the Maine Girls Academy meets Sanford in a girls quarterfinal at 4:45 p.m. Bonny Eagle-Scarborough and Sanford-Gorham follows in boys quarterfinal play at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.

On Friday at the Portland Expo, Scarborough meets Thornton Academy at 4:15 p.m., in a girls quarter, while the Class A South boys tournament gets underway with York taking on Westbrook at 6 p.m., and Greely facing Kennebunk at 8 p.m.

Wednesday’s cancellations forced some changes to the Class D South schedule in Augusta.

On Saturday, Temple meets Greenville in girls quarterfinal action at 11:30 a.m., followed by Vinalhaven taking on Highview Christian at 1 p.m.

Also, Monday’s slate at the Civic Center changed a bit. In boys play, Forest Hills meets Seacoast Christian at 8:30 a.m., followed at 10 a.m. by Pine Tree Academy facing top-seeded Greenville at 10 a.m.
