
He was born in Lewiston July 12, 1947, the son of John and Ruth “Tiny” Stover Shaughnessy.
John graduated from Lisbon High School in the class of 1965, attending Husson College in Bangor. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1970 and was an air traffic controller, then working for the FAA at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick. John retired from Bath Iron Works in 2010 after 28 years.
He married the love of his life Barbara Schwanger on September 2, 1967. John was a past master of Ancient York Lodge #155, American Legion in Lisbon Falls and a charter member of Down East Street Rods. His passion was restoring antique cars, street rods and spending time at his camp.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, two daughters Kristie Thrower and her husband Tracy of Chapin, SC and Kellie Gorman and her husband Paul of Westbrook and his beloved granddaughters Kellie and Addison Thrower.
