SACO — John J. Gay, 79, of Dayton, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, after a long illness.

John was the son of Edwin and E. Virginia (Cole) Gay.

He was preceded in death in 2015 by his wife of 36 years, Judy (Cookson) Landry Gay.

He is survived by: his son, Greg and Melanie (Miller) Landry of Glenburn; daughter, Phyllis and Bryan Woodworth of Dayton; his beloved grandchildren, Tyler and Erin Landry, both of Glenburn; sister, Mary (Gay) and Wally Baldyga of West Suffield, Connecticut; brother, Fred and Carol Gay of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and brother, Amos and Cindy Gay of Dayton; as well as his very special nieces and nephews.

After serving in the Army, John was proudly employed as a crane operator for H.B. Fleming in South Portland until his retirement in 2008. John was an active lifelong member of the Advent Christian Church of Goodwins Mills and sang in the choir for most of his life.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Monarch Center in Saco for the wonderful care and loving attention John received during the last two years.

Committal service will be private and at the convenience of the family. Dennett Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco, Maine, is in the charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made for Parkinson’s Research to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
