SANFORD — Dolores (Plante) Moreau, 84, of Sanford, died Thursday, March 30, 2017, surrounded by her loving family after a short illness.

She was born Nov. 2, 1932, in Springvale, Maine, the daughter of the late Donat W. Plante and Beatrice (Contois) Plante. She lived most of her life in the Sanford and Springvale, Maine, area, and for a few years in Glastonbury, Connecticut. She married Joseph Charles Edward “Eddie” Moreau in 1951, and was a homemaker for many years raising four children. Dolores was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and a communicant of Holy Family Church (St. Therese de Lesieux Parish) for nearly 60 years.

She worked as counter clerk at McClellan’s and Hooz’s Apparel in her youth. As her children grew to adolescence, she worked at various manufacturing, textile and retail positions in the Sanford area. Dolores was employed at Tenneford Weaving for 18 ½ years, and held two jobs for over 20 years because she loved working and being around people. She retired in 1998. She loved watching television; shows like “Kojak” and the “Johnny Carson Show,” and she loved taping movies for the grandkids. She often said she traveled around the world from her living room watching TV.

Her greatest gift was the care, compassion and love she bestowed on her family. Her happiest times were hosting birthday parties for the grandkids, seeing family on Easter and Mother’s Day, summer barbecues, family sleepovers and of course the holidays. Her heart and home were always open to all. She was one of the kindest people one could ever meet and that kindness will be sorely missed by her large family.

She was preceded in death by: her husband in 1977; her sister, Gertrude Plante in 1995; and her son, George Moreau in 2015.

She is survived by: her children, Michael and David Moreau, and her daughter Louise Berube; eight grandchildren, Laura, Jonathan, and Christopher Berube, Mathew Moreau and Joanna Augustus, and Jennifer, Daniel and Jason Moreau; six great grandchildren, Taylor Berube, Natalie and Hadrian Augustus, and Peyton, Dorian, and Gavin Moreau; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church. Visiting hours will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. the morning of the funeral at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St.. Springvale. Burial will take place later in the spring at Notre Dame Cemetery.
