WELLS — Spring has arrived and the Wells Public Library is ready to leap into the season by hosting a number of popular programs and activities for children and adults.
Here’s a schdule of upcoming events this spring at the library, which is at 1434 Post Road in Wells:
Children’s and Teen Programs
Mother Goose Storytime
Monday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m.
Join us for Mother Goose Mondays! Children up to 24 months old and their caregivers are invited to engage in lap activities, rhymes, songs, and fingerplays. Toddler Storytime
Tuesday, April 11 at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m.
Kids ges 2 to 5 and their caregivers are invited to meet us on Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings for free stories, songs, and movement, all followed by a craft. For more information, call 646-8181.
Teen Movie Matinee
Wednesday, April 12 at 2:15 p.m.
Need something to get over Hump Day? Why not come to the library to watch a movie. This month we will be showing Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Popcorn provided, fun expected. Lego and Rubik’s Cube Club
Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m.
Let the brain games begin. Participants are invited to build master creations with Legos provided by the library. We will also have Rubik’s cubes on hand with instructions on how to solve the Cube. All ages welcome. For more information, call the library at 646-8181.
Earth Day Crafts and Scavenger Hunt for Kids
Tuesday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m.
Stop by the library during school vacation week to make a craft and to scavenge in the sunshine. We will provide the supplies for several Earth Day-related crafts. We will also have an Earth Day-based scavenger hunt with prizes given out upon completion. You won’t want to miss this. These free events are sponsored by the Friends of the Wells Public Library. Adult Programs
Fiber Arts
Friday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m.
All are welcome to join our Fiber Arts Group. If you embroider, cross-stitch, sew, weave, quilt, whatever you do – if it’s done with fiber and it’s portable, we welcome you. We meet every Friday as long as the library is open. All ages & levels of ability are encouraged to join us for ideas, inspiration and lively conversation. Lunch and Learn with Oral Historian Molly Graham
Friday, April 7 at noon
Please join us in welcoming historian Molly Graham to the library. Graham is an oral history expert and the co-founder of the non-profit organization Oral History and Folklife Research, Inc. She will speak about what oral history is, why it’s important, and what Oral History and Folklore Research, Inc. is doing to preserve the history of Maine. Author and Former Portland Detective Bruce Coffin
Tuesday, April 11 at 6 p.m.
Former Portland Police Detective Sergeant and writer Bruce Coffin will be at the library to read from his newest book, Among the Shadows. Set in Portland, Maine, the book tells the story of a second-generation cop who investigates the murder of a retired officer. The book has been described as “compulsively readable” by bestselling author Gayle Lynds, and is sure to be a favorite of any mystery lover. Coffin will be happy to answer questions about his book or his work in law enforcement. This will be a very special night. For more information, call the library at 646-8181.
Meditation Group
Wednesday, April 12 at noon
If meditation is something you are curious or passionate about, this program is for you! Learn how to consistently incorporate mediation into your life in order to increase health, wellbeing and inner peace. Wellness Coach Cindy Simon will lead us in a weekly meditation session. Maine Poet Laureate Stuart Kestenbaum
Tuesday, April 25 at 6 p.m.
Please join us in welcoming Maine’s Poet Laureate, Stuart Kestenbaum, back to the Wells Public Library. Kestenbaum will be at the library to help us celebrate National Poetry Month with a reading of his works. He was named as our Maine Poet Laureate in March 2016, and has published four books of poetry and a collection of essays. Kestenbaum’s work has been featured in a multitude of state and national publications. We hope to see you all at this celebration of poetry, writing, and Maine!
