A former Topsham man faced with 16 counts of sex crimes against children in Sagadahoc County has now been indicted on additional charges by a Cumberland County grand jury.
Henry Eichman, 56, was indicted last week in Cumberland County on a charge of unlawful sexual contact, a Class B crime because it involved a minor under 12, and is punishable by up to 10 years incarceration and a $20,000 fine.
He was also indicted on a lesser charge of unlawful sexual touching, a Class D crime.
He was scheduled to be arraigned this morning in the Cumberland County Unified Criminal Docket.
Brunswick Police Cmdr. Mark Waltz said police received a complaint in September 2016 of an incident involving Eichman and a female minor under the age of 12, which is alleged to have occurred at St. John’s Catholic School in Brunswick where he taught theater.
Detective William Moir investigated and turned his findings over to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s office, which resulted in last week’s indictment.
Initial charges
Eichman was arrested by the Topsham Police Department on Sept. 9, 2016. At the time, Topsham police executed a search warrant at his Pleasant Street home and charged him with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor under 12, two counts of unlawful sexual contact, and two counts of violation of privacy. Eichman was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset where he posted bail Sept. 14.
According to court records, Eichman was indicted by a Sagadahoc County grand jury in December on seven counts of unlawful sexual contact, three counts of visual sexual aggression against a child, and six counts of unlawful sexual touching. The alleged crimes took place between April 2013 and August 2016 and court documents list six different victims under the age of 13.
Ten of the alleged counts are crimes against children under 12, making them Class B crimes.
He plead not guilty to the 16 charges in West Bath District Court in January. He has a dispositional conference scheduled for June 7.
Eichman is the founder of the Midcoast Youth Theater Group, where he was described as a teacher, according to court documents. He’d also worked in the past as the drama coach for Mt. Ararat High School’s drama club.
