GORHAM — Two members of the University of Southern Maine baseball team – sophomores Dalton Rice (Waterford, Maine/Oxford Hills) and Devin Warren (Smithfield, Maine/Messalonskee) – have been selected for weekly recognition by the Little East Conference for the week of April 3-9 and announced Monday afternoon.
Rice was named the Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season, and for the second time in his career. Warren was picked as the Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Helping the Huskies go undefeated in six games last week, Warren batted .609 (14 for 23) for the week with a home run and a team-high eight RBI. Warren hit safely in all six games, and had multiple hits in five of the games. He capped off his week going 2 for 3 with a homer and five RBI in USM’s 9-6 win in the nightcap of an LEC doubleheader against Western Connecticut State University. Warren’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning gave the Huskies some critical insurance runs. Warren is batting .364 for the season with 10 runs scored and 12 RBI.
Rice earned his second win of the season beating Eastern Connecticut State University. Rice carried a shutout through seven innings, and finished the game working 8 1/3 innings allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three. Rice is now 2-1 with a 2.30 ERA.
