AUGUSTA (AP) — The murder trial of a New York man charged with killing a Maine couple on Christmas Day 2015 is being moved due to the extensive publicity surrounding the case.
David Marble Jr., of Rochester, is accused of shooting 35-year-old Eric Williams and 26-year-old Bonnie Royer in Manchester, outside Augusta.
The Kennebec Journal reports that a judge on Friday granted a request from Marble’s attorney to move the trial from Kennebec County to Cumberland County Superior Court. The defense lawyer had argued that finding an impartial jury in Kennebec County would be difficult because Gov. Paul LePage has repeatedly referred to Marble’s nickname, “Dee Money,” in making negative statements about black drug dealers from out of state.
The trial is set for late fall.
