Maine State Police are advising customers of Chipotle Mexican Grill, the popular fast-casual Mexican restaurant, to check their credit card statements after the company has reported what may be “unauthorized activity” on its payment processing system.
State Police said on its social media pages Wednesday that Chipotle customers who used credit or debit cards at its restaurant locations between March 24 and April 18 of this year should check their card statements for any suspicious transactions.
If you’ve recently eaten at one of Maine’s or New Hampshire’s locations, you might have been affected by the possible breach.
In Maine, there are Chipotle locations in South Portland, Portland, Westbrook, Augusta and Bangor. There are also several locations in New Hampshire, at Newington, Concord, Manchester, Bedford, Keene and two spots in Nashua.
The company believes they have stopped the suspicious activity, police said, although customers should still check their transaction history.
A statement by Chipotle on its website says that it will notify affected customers as it obtains more information as investigation into the possible breach continues.
“Because our investigation is continuing, complete findings are not available and it is too early to provide further details on the investigation,” the company’s statement read. “We anticipate providing notification to any affected customers as we get further clarity about the specific timeframes and restaurant locations that may have been affected.
“Consistent with good practices, consumers should closely monitor their payment card statements,” the statement continued.
Police say people should report any unauthorized transactions — no matter how small the amount — to their card issuers and banks.

State Police say Maine Identity Services, LLC provides data breach and identity theft assistance to individuals, organizations and law enforcement personnel. It is a member of the FBI InfraGard organization and the Maine Fraud Prevention Alliance, and is an advisor to state regulators and legislators.
