SACO — The defending champion Thornton Academy boys tennis team kicked off its 2017 spring with a 5-0 sweep of visiting Deering on Thursday afternoon.

TA’s Dariy Vykhodtsev shut out Deering’s Conor Doane 6-0, 6-0, while Jakub Jurasek added a 6-1, 6-0 win for the Trojans over Elliot Weeks. Balasz Balati rounded out TA’s singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Joel Kahn.

TA’s doubles pair of Asher Thompson and Adam Lovejoy topped Deering’s Alex Smith and Hoa Nguyen, while Jack Xiao and Caleb Richard secured the 5-0 sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Alex Cuba and Logan Morrione.

The Trojans improve to 1-0 on the season, and have not dropped a regular season match since 2014.

Biddeford 5, Sanford 0

The Tigers swept the visiting Sanford boys tennis team 5-0 on Thursday afternoon. Evan Santiago defeated Kyle Bresett 6-0, 6-0, while Cam Saucier also won his match over Felix Meas 6-0, 6-0. Ricky Ruck went on to top Brian Shaw 6-0, 6-0 on the day as well.

Mustafa Najm and Jerome Criado went on to defeat Zack Bresett and Silas Noble 6-0, 6-0 to secure the win.

Girls Tennis                             

Thornton Academy 4, Deering 1

Eva Sachs won her singles match 6-3, 6-1 while teammate Emma Nassif won 6-0, 6-0. Brianna Paul rounded out the singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

Iaryna Iasenytska and Cordelia Perry would later win their doubles match 6-3, 5-7 while Katie Shedd and Yawen Liu dropped their match with a 6-3, 6-4 decision.

Biddeford 3, Sanford 2

The Tigers gutted out a tough 3-2 win over Sanford Thursday.

Biddeford’s Nicole Bradeen grinded out a tough 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Alaina Parison, while Gabby Smith topped Alli Plante 6-4, 7-5 to give the Tigers the 2-0 win.

Sanford’s Corinne Lawrence won her singles match 6-2, 6-4 over Sydney Walton to get the Spartans on the board.

Biddeford’s doubles pair of Megan Gregoire and Julia Pearl won 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 over Sanford’s Emilee Mathieu and Kim Works, while Sanford’s Anna Johnson and Mariah Parison cruised past Tirza Cressey and Taylor McKay 6-3, 6-4.

York 1, Wells 0

The Warriors dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision over York on Monday afternoon.

Tied 0-0 in the eight inning, York’s Chris Neison hit a walk off RBI single to secure the win.

Tyler Bridge took the hill for Wells, pitching six innings and allowing no runs on three hits while collecting a strikeout.

Boys Lacrosse                       

Yarmouth 14, Kennebunk 6

The Clippers grinded out a win over visiting Kennebunk thanks to a second quarter surge.

The Clippers jumped to a tight 3-2 lead after one quarter, however they would go on a 7-0 run in the second to take a commanding 10-2 lead at half. The Rams cut the lead to 10-5 in the third quarter, however the Yarmouth offense would once again catch fire to secure the win.

Girls Lacrosse                           

Thornton Academy 15, Westbrook 1

The Trojans improved to 2-0 with an impressive victory over Westbrook on Thursday.

Amanda Cyr led TA with five goals, while Adeline Paradis added a hat trick, along with Alana Petteway who added two.

Cat Henaire, Hannah McAlary, Taylor Ouellette, Mackenzie Basile and Morgan LeBlanc added one apiece.

Biddeford 19, Deering 4

The Tigers continued their impressive start with a big win over hosting Deering on Thursday afternoon.

Paige Laverriere led Biddeford with a game-high six goals while Hailey Allen added five. Peyton McKeown later scored four goals while Megan Mourmouras, Grace Boisvert, Serena Speight and Rebekah Guay added one apiece.
