BRUNSWICK
Two local men have been charged with breaking into vehicles and accused of stealing items ranging from clothing to jewelry.
William Costa, 25, of Brunswick, and Christopher Tucker, 26, of Topsham were linked to nine motor vehicle burglaries after Costa was stopped by Brunswick Police Officer Brian Funke following a reported burglary Thursday morning. The contents of his backpack revealed items reported stolen the week earlier, said Patrol Cmdr. Thomas Garrepy.
A Pleasant Street resident called police after his car alarm was set off at 5 a.m., and he reported seeing a suspect in the parking lot. Costa was located by police walking around the Columbia and Moore Ave. area, said Garrepy. The commander said the thefts were crimes of opportunity as the vehicles were unlocked.
Other items reported stolen included GPS systems, cash and a backpack.
Both men were issued summonses for the misdemeanor crimes. Costa is also charged with two counts of theft by unauthorized taking.
