Two new exhibitions open Friday evening at River Arts in Damariscotta.
The public is invited to the opening reception of “Artists’ Choice” Friday from 5-7 p.m. Charlotte Davenhill, curator and owner of the Tidemark Gallery in Waldoboro, selected nearly 140 works by 90 artists from all over Maine to create an exhibition which includes encaustic, sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics and fine craft and assemblage.

River Arts holds 10 themed, open, juried exhibitions per year. The gallery program creates opportunity for artists to have their work selected, participate in the gallery process and sell their work. More than 7,000 people visit the gallery and participate in events and workshops each year.
River Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 4, and on Sundays from 10-2. It is closed on Mondays. River Arts is located at 241 Route 1 in Damariscotta.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
