John Francis Marley of Harpswell, Maine died at his home on April 29, 2017 after an eight-month battle with cancer. His body has left this earth but his spirit and zest for life will remain in all of those who were lucky enough to have known him. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sue, his three children, Sean, Hannah and Keenan, and two grandchildren, Eden and Everleigh.

John was born on July 10, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA, and was the perfect combination of love, kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and mischief. His laugh could light up an entire room full of people and his warmth could embrace them all as if they had each received an individual hug. John changed many lives for the better. Whether you were a friend, a co-worker, employee or relative John was always there for you when you needed help. He seemed to know either how to fix the problem or at least how to share the load. With John on your side anything was possible.

John loved sports, mostly teams from his hometown of Philadelphia. He loved music of all kinds. He was truly the “Music Man” He spent countless hours listening to “tunes” from The Allman Brothers Band to Warren Zevon. John could tell you songs, lyrics and back stories about each of the performers.

John loved life.

John worked tirelessly for many local charities and schools, whether he was cooking for hundreds or coaching teams, he just plain cared about people. He taught us all how to be better people. He did things for all the right reasons. He did things because they needed to be done. He did things because it made the world a better place. He did things to make people laugh, and “that is truth and that’s a fact, from the John Marley almanac!”

Let us all take a page from his book and work hard to make the world a better place in Johnny’s name.

A celebration of John’s life will be held in June.
