Richard Sears Gallagher, age 76, of Middleton, MA formerly of Dedham and Weston, MA died peacefully on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, MA with family nearby. After a life well lived, he faced his end with tremendous courage and enduring good humor.

The son of William and Joan Gallagher, Dick was raised in Weston, in 1958 graduated from Noble & Greenough School, Dedham, MA, and was a member of the class of 1962 at Trinity College, Hartford, CT. Like his father, Dick served as a U.S. Marine for over three years, a source of lifelong pride.

Dick made friends wherever he went. He was known for his generous heart, great sense of humor, and love of the sea. Dick spent his childhood summers on Cape Cod (East Dennis, MA), and much of his leisure time at his home in West Point Village, Phippsburg on the coast of Maine. He loved spending time on his dock and boats with family and friends, particularly hosting and participating in the chaos of many boisterous picnics and lobster cookouts.

Dick leaves behind his loving wife Elaine M. Lowell of Middleton, his daughter Phoebe S. Winder (husband Caleb; children Avery and Charlie) Boston, MA; three step-children Heather Sears Gaitan (husband Ricardo; children Alejandra, Liliana, and Nicolas) Portland, OR; Samuel P. Sears III (wife Michele; children Max and Eli) Hamilton, MA; Spencer L. Sears (wife Amy; children Olivia and Cameron) Golden, CO.

He also leaves behind his two brothers, William W. Gallagher III (wife Karen) of Weston, MA and Christopher C. Gallagher of Arlington, VA, sisters in-law Suzanne Lowell Popejoy (husband Tom) Albuquerque, NM; Linda K. Lowell, Desert Hot Springs, CA, as well as countless friends, relatives, and business associates from all over the country and the globe.

He spent a long and notable career in the hospitality industry representing companies such as Fairmont, Loews, InterContinental, Woodside Travel, American Express, and for the past several years, Experient, an industry leader in business conference planning where he was respected for his keen wit and strong intellect.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923 which provided such wonderful care.
