SACO — The Thornton Academy girls tennis team remains undefeated with a 4-1 win over visiting Marshwood on Monday.

Eva Sachs swept her singles match 6-0, 6-0 while Emma Nassif took a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Brianna Paul would then win 6-0, 6-1 to round out the singles matches.

TA’s doubles pair of Iaryna Iasenytska and Cordelia Perry won 6-1, 6-0, while Ky Nguyen and Yawen Liu dropped a tough 6-3, 4-6, 3-10 match.

Sanford 4, MGA 1

The Spartans picked up a 4-1 win over Maine Girls Academy on Monday.

Sanford’s Alaina Parison took a tough 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Sani Hackett, while MGA’s Sarah Mariski took a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Alli Plante. Corrine Lawrance picked up Sanford’s second singles win with a 6-4, 6-4 decision.

Emilee Mathieu and Hannah Miller later picked up a 6-2, 6-4 doubles victory for the Spartans, while Lauren Fisk and Mariah Parison rounded out the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-2 doubles win.

Boys Tennis

Thornton Academy 5, Marshwood 0

TA would improve to 5-0 this season with a 5-0 sweep of Marshwood.

Dariy Vykhodtsev won his match 6-0, 6-0 while Balasz Balati took a 6-0, 6-0 decision as well. Jack Xiao capped off the singles [portion with a 6-0, 6-2 win.

Asher Thompson and Adam Lovejoy continued to impress this spring with a 6-0, 6-0 doubles win, while Caleb Richard and Jon Ma won 6-1, 6-0.

South Portland 5, Sanford 0

The Red Riots cruised to a 5-0 sweep over Sanford on Monday.

Andy Leblanc topped Felix Megs 6-0, 6-0 while Brian Shaw fell to Michael Feely 6-0, 6-0. Owen Doane rounded out the singles matches with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kyle Bresett.

Max Saffer Meng and Connor Lamour then took a 6-3, 11-3 win over Sam Lapenta and Brayden Ginchereau.

Biddeford 7, Sanford 6

The Tigers overcame a late 6-1 deficit to push past visiting Sanford 7-6 on Monday at Doran Field.

Trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the Tigers would get hits from Brook Davis, Katie Stewart, Alex Chase and Taylor Wildes to score four runs and cut the lead to 6-5.

Davis would add another hit to lead off the sixth and made it home on an RBI single by Chase to tie the score, later, Abby O’Connor would knock in Wildes on a botched fly ball to take the lead.

Lexi Matteau pitched six innings and earned the win for Biddeford while Stewart pitched the seventh and earned the save.

Portland 5, Noble 3

The Bulldogs topped the Knights 5-3 in a tight contest on Monday.

Raegan Kelly took the circle and collected 12 strikeouts and allowed six its for Noble. She would also hit a solo homerun in the fifth inning, while Mackenzie Aleva and Jordan Boucher added RBI’s.

Wells 9, York 0

The Lady Warriors earned a 9-0 shutout win over York on Monday.

Wells would score in four of six innings at the plate, led by Sara Ring who collected two hits and three RBI’s. Olivia Clay also added two hits with an RBI.

Karissa Kenyon pitched four innings and collected four strikeouts with no walks while Anya Chase threw for three innings and picked up five strikeouts.

Baseball

Old Orchard 10, Waynflete 1

Old Orchard took a big 10-1 win over Waynflete on Monday.

Thomas Fregeau led the way with three hits while Jake Maloney added two RBIs.

Cody Blanchette picked up the win on the mound, pitching four innings and allowing just one hit while striking out three.
