TOPSHAM — Brenda Coffin McLean, age 71, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick.

She was born May 22, 1945 in Portland, Me a daughter of Dr. J. Kenneth and Christine Dow Coffin. She graduated Brunswick High School, class of 1963, received a MS from University of Maine Orono ’67, and a MA Education from University of New England ’00.

She was teacher in Hamilton, MA and once returning to Maine worked within the Lisbon School Department. After retirement, she continued as a substitute teacher until totaling over 45 years in education. Her family was the most important thing to her and she encouraged them in everything and attended all of their events. Also Brenda had many friends that she enjoyed spending time with.

She is predeceased by her brother David Coffin; a sister Peggy Dionne.

She is survived by a son Scott McLean and his wife Shauna of Topsham, a daughter Kristin Steinman and her husband Phil Mather of Topsham; grandchildren, Kelsey McLean, Jake Steinman, Marcus Steinman, Liam McLean, and a step-grandson, Austin Mather.

Family and Friends may visit 6-8 Wednesday May 24, 2017 at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A memorial service will follow 10 AM Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the funeral home. Mrs. McLean’s enduring wish was for everyone to hug the people they love, both family and friends, and cherish the opportunity to do so.
