A man was injured when he was run over by a tractor-trailer he had been sleeping under Wednesday night in Lewiston, according to police.

A driver for LePage Bakery at 193 Park St. called police shortly before midnight to report his trailer had hit a man. Police determined the man who was hit – 42-year-old Christopher Powell – had been sleeping or lying under or beside the trailer when driver Michael Colombe, 61, of Sidney started to drive the tractor-trailer through the bakery parking lot.

“He immediately heard a scream and stopped,” said Lt. David St. Pierre.

Powell, who is from Arizona but may now be homeless, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Maine State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Division responded to investigate the incident because it involved a commercial vehicle. St. Pierre said it does not appear any charges will be filed, but the investigation is ongoing.
