BRUNSWICK — It had been 60 years since Dr. Houghton M. White III put on his swim gear and competed in a swimming contest.

Recently, White not only competed, but broke three records in the men’s 80-84 age group at a masters swimming competition in Belfast.

White faced off with Bill Jones, a rival when White attended Bowdoin and Jones was a student/athlete at Amherst College.

This time around, White beat Jones in both the 50- and 100 breaststroke. His time of 1:47.94 in the 100 also set a New England record.

White is a former pediatrician from the Brunswick area and is a graduate of Bowdoin College.
