BRUNSWICK — Julia “Julie” Hillman Dougherty, formerly of Brunswick, ME passed away peacefully on May 16, 2017 after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease.
Julia was a member of Schenectady, NY’s Nott Terrace High School’s class of 1956 and earned education degrees from Goucher College and the College of New Rochelle. She taught elementary school in New Rochelle, NY and raised two children with her husband of more than 50 years, James Dougherty.
Julia was a mentor to young students, a Girl Scout leader, an avid gardener, an alumni recruiter for Goucher and an accomplished athlete passionate about tennis and cross-country skiing.
Most of all she was a treasured friend to many and will be missed by all who loved her.
Julia is survived by her son Sean (Julie), daughter Molly (Cliff) and her adored grandchildren, Erin and Connor.
