SANFORD — Arlene M. Day (née Andrews), 81, passed away on Thursday, May 25, at her home in Sanford.

She was born on May 18, 1936, in Berwick, the daughter of the late Etta Mae Andrews (née Simmons) and Clifford Spence Andrews. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Harland (Sonny) W. Day, and an older brother, Herbert (Herb) Andrews, both of Sanford.

Arlene was a graduate of the North Berwick High School class of 1953. After High School, she attended the New Hampshire State Hospital of Nursing in Concord, New Hampshire, where she graduated in 1957. Her internship was in Jersey City, New Jersey. She eventually moved back to Maine where she worked from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.

Arlene and her husband Sonny were married on July 30, 1965. They lived in Sanford until the early 1970s, then moved to Limerick, where they lived until 1982. The family moved to Mesa, Arizona, where she continued working as a nurse; eventually becoming a charge nurse. She enjoyed coming back to Maine in the summers. After the birth of her granddaughter, she retired and moved back to Maine while going to Arizona for some time in the winters.

Arlene enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was exceptionally proud of her granddaughter, Isabella, and loved to attend her events and hear of her accomplishments.

Arlene is survived by: her daughter, Sharlene Troop, granddaughter, Isabella Troop and sisters, Gail Allen, of Sanford, and Shirley Bourne, of Ogunquit.

At her request, there will be no public services.
