
The visiting Tigers took a 4-1 lead into the third inning, however the Mustang bats would come alive as they scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the 6-4 lead. Massabesic never looked back, getting another eight runs by the fifth inning to take a commanding 14-4 lead to put the game out of reach.
The Tigers finish the season with an overall record of 7-10 while the Mustangs improve to 12-5. Massabesic will travel to Thornton Academy to take of the third-seeded Trojans today.
The Class A South baseball tournament experienced its first upset of the postseason, as the visiting Sanford Spartans took down TA 5-3.
TA finished the regular season at 11-5 and were on a hot streak entering the big dance, however the 5-11 Spartans were able to come up with the timely hits to push past the Trojans to advance to the next round.

Softball
South Portland 6, Kennebunk 4
The Red Riots pushed past the Rams 6-4 in 10 innings in a marathon of a game in the Class A South preliminary round.
Despite Kennebunk overcoming a three-run deficit in the seventh inning to force extras, South Portland would use a big two-run single in the 10th to push past the Rams.
Kennebunk finishes the season at 9-8.
Noble 6, Maine Girls Academy 5
The Noble softball team overcame a 5-2 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to push past Maine Girls Academy in the Class A South prelims.
The Lions would jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, and managed to take the 5-2 lead into the final set.
Sammie Morrill, Kelsey Lessard and Marissa Cipola would get consecutive singles to start the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with no outs for Noble.
Raegan Kelly would then get the Knights’ fourth straight single which would score a run. Kassidy Lessard would later hit a single that scored in another run to cut the lead to 5-4, and MGA would allow the tying run to score on an errant throw to third base.
Jordan Bouchard would get the game-winner, hitting a single to push the run across the plate.
Kelsey Lessard, Kelly and Bouchard tallied three hits on the day while Cipola and Morrill added two. Kelly took the circle for the Knights, racking up 13 strikeouts and allowing three earned runs.
Girls Lacrosse
Thornton Academy 9, Bonny Eagle 7
The Trojans held off a surging Bonny Eagle squad 9-7 in the opening round of the playoffs at Paul Hill Stadium.
Paige LeBlanc and Hannah McAlary paced TA with three goals each, while Taylor Ouellette added two and Alana Pettaway one. Mackenzie Basile added four assists on the afternoon.
Massabesic 13, Scarborough 3
The No. 1 Mustangs took down visiting Scarborough 13-3 to maintain their perfect season and advance to the next round of the playoffs.
Gorham 8, Biddeford 7
The Tigers dropped a heartbreaker to Gorham on Wednesday to fall in the opening round of the playoffs.
Paige Laverierre led Biddeford with three goals and an assist while Grace Boisvert added two scores. Ella McKenzie racked up 11 saves in the cage.
Boys Lacrosse
Wells 18, Kennebunk 14
The Warriors and Rams battled in a tight opening round, as Wells managed to grind out the close win.
The No. 4 Warriors led the No. 5 Rams just 9-8 midway through the third quarter, but were able to put together a strong fourth to push past Kennebunk.
The Warriors improve to 10-3 and will move on to face No. 1 seeded Cape Elizabeth.
South Portland 18, Massabesic 7
Although the Mustangs progressed this season and claimed the No. 6 seed heading into the Class A South playoffs, the hosting No. 3 Red Riots proved to be too much as they scored early and often to cruise to a quarterfinals win.
The Mustangs finish the year at 7-6 overall.
Gorham 17, Biddeford 4
The No. 4 seeded Rams ousted the No. 5 Tigers in a blowout win on Wednesday in the Class A South quarters.
The Tigers fall to 7-6 to finish the year.
Baseball
Deering 3, Biddeford 2
The Rams gutted out a tough 3-2 win over Biddeford on Wednesday.
Down 2-1 in the seventh, Deering would score a run on an RBI single followed by the game-winning run on a double steal to secure the win.
Joey Curit led Biddeford with three hits on the day.
Sacopee Valley 7, OOB 4
Despite the loss, the Seagulls had a handful of solid outings in the Class C South playoffs.
Dylan Creswell and Thomas Fregeau had two hits apiece, while Ethan O’Donnell collected two RBI on the afternoon. Matt Hurley pitched six innings for OOB, racking up eight strikeouts.
