Baseball
No. 3 Wells at No. 2 York
The Warriors finished the regular season by losing two of their last four games, but have caught fire in the postseason. Cam Cousins pitched a gem in the quarters, and the Warriors will need another big time performance on the hill as they take on the hard-hitting Wildcats.
Softball
No. 3 Thornton Academy at. No. 2 Portland
The Trojan bats came alive on Thursday’s quarterfinals win over Massabesic, as TA racked up 14 runs with four homeruns. TA’s defense is sharp as usual, and pitching has been consistent. The Trojans will need to deliver in all three phases once again in order to top Portland, who beat them 9-1 in the regular season.
No. 4 Yarmouth vs. No. 1 Wells
The top-seeded Warriors have been among the most consistent teams in the state. Wells is experienced, and has shown the ability to hit 1-9. If ace pitcher Anya Chase continues to dazzle in the circle, then Wells should have no problem punching its ticket to the Class B South finals.
Boys Lacrosse
No. 3 South Portland at No. 2 Thornton Academy
The Trojans topped South Portland 15-9 in the regular season, and take a nine-game win streak into today’s match. Between Noah Edborg, C.J. Labreck, John Giroux and Tom Levasseur shining for TA, the Red Riots will have an uphill battle in the semis.
No. 4 Wells at No. 1 Cape Elizabeth
The Warriors finished the regular season at 9-3 as one of the South’s biggest surprises. Cape topped them 21-5 in the regular season, so Wells has its work cut out in this tough draw.
Girls Lacrosse
No. 5 Gorham at No. 1 Massabesic
The Mustangs look to keep their perfect record alive when they face Gorham. Massabesic is loaded, and looks hungry to avenge its 2016 state final defeat.
No. 3 Thornton Academy at No. 2 Marshwood
Both clubs are 10-3, and appear to be the other’s equal. What makes this an interesting matchup as well is unfamiliarity, as the two teams have yet to square off this spring. Don’t be surprised to see this match come down to the wire.
No. 4 Cape Elizabeth at No. 1 Kennebunk
After a shaky start to the season, the Rams won 10 of their last 11 heading into the semis, and look to defend their state title. Although on paper the Rams are heavy favorites, it took their best punch to defeat Cape when they won 6-5 earlier this year.
