Dumoulin, 25, emerged as one of the Penguins’ top defenseman in 2017. In 70 games played, he scored one goal with 14 assists and posted an even plus/minus. He also became one of Pittsburgh’s most reliable defenseman during the Stanley Cup playoffs, and had the most minutes played during the decisive Game 6 victory.
Dumoulin made history in 2016, becoming the first ever Maine-born NHL player to win a title. Last season with Pittsburgh he appeared in 79 games, racking up 16 assists and a plus-11 for the year. He also scored a goal in Game 6 of the 2016 Cup Finals against the San Jose Sharks. Pittsburgh would use that goal in it’s series-deciding 3-1 win.
Dumoulin competed for the Biddeford High School Hockey team, and brought two state titles home to the city. He would later play for Boston College, winning the 2012 national championship before being drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2012 draft, going 51 overall.
The Journal Tribune will update its viewers regarding Dumoulin’s possible return to Biddeford with the Cup.
