Biddeford Police confirmed a man’s body was found at 24 State St. around 6 a.m. Monday, outside a multi-unit complex at the address.
Dep. Chief JoAnne Fisk said Monday morning the body had been found but did not have enough details to speak on the case.
In a press release issued Monday afternoon, Chief Roger Beaupre said the death is “unexplained” and police will not be releasing additional details until investigation is complete.
Residents of the complex, a large, multi-level apartment building within the city’s downtown area, said the body was of a man and that it was found next to a black SUV at the back of the building’s parking lot around 6:15 a.m.
Resident Tina Turner said she called 911 around 6:23 a.m. Fire crews and Biddeford Police’s Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene.
Several residents of the complex said the man was unknown to them, but they believed they’d seen him in the area before.
The man’s identity has not been released, but police say there is no danger to the public.
“We have determined that there is no danger to this neighborhood or to the public in general,” Beaupre said, adding the Office of Chief Medical Examiner will be assisting in the investigation.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
