She was born on June 6, 1930 to George and Imelda Morin in Biddeford. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Class of 1948.
On April 30, 1949, she married Joseph G. Grondin at St Joseph Church in Biddeford.
She was dedicated to her family. She stayed at home to raise her children and lovingly cared for her parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was an active member of Most Holy Trinity Parish where she helped with the newsletter, fairs and retreats. She was also a lector and member of the choir.
She had a few jobs throughout her life. She did clerical work at Metropolitan Life, helped students at UNE find housing, and performed secretarial work for a doctor. She published a book in 2007 called “My Family, My Life.” She wrote a biweekly column in the diocesan newspaper, “The Church World.” At age 50, she attended nursing school for a year before she had to stop due to her back problems; she had always wanted to be a nurse and help people. She also crocheted afghans and was an accomplished seamstress. Ruth was famous for her love of butterflies and daisies.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Grondin in 1950, and a son, Joey Grondin in 1960.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 68 years, Joseph G. Grondin of Saco; three children, Patricia Grondin of Biddeford, Kate St. James of Saco and Bill Grondin and his wife Brenda of Durham, Maine; three grandchildren, Aimee St. James of Portland, Maine, Tiffany Downing of Nashville, Tennessee, and Derek Downing of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and sister-in-law Precille Beebe of Biddeford.
Visiting Hours will be 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Hope Memorial Chapel 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Monday at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
