BOWDOINHAM

The driver of a pickup truck involved in a crash on Interstate 295 in Bowdoinham was listed in good condition Monday afternoon.

The crash was reported a near Exit 38 shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday.

Maine State Trooper Ian Dunn said a 2004 Ford F-350 pickup truck was traveling in the passing lane when it left the roadway and headed down median’s embankment before striking two trees.

The driver, Juan Martinez, 40, of Farmingdale, was pinned in the pickup truck. It took firefighters 30 minutes to free him in what Bowdoinham Deputy Fire Chief Bob Frizzle said was an extensive extrication.

Martinez was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston in a Life- Flight of Maine helicopter that landed on the highway.

A front seat passenger, Ronald Evans, 50, of Farmingdale, was transported by ambulance to CMMC and has since been discharged.

His son, Jesse Evans, 22, of Readfield, was in the back seat and suffered a minor cut to his arm. He rode in the ambulance with his father.

I-295 was shut down near the crash, temporarily backing up traffic.

Dunn said the crash is still under investigation and police are looking at a mechanical failure as a possible factor.

Police are looking into whether alcohol or drugs played a role as they would with any crash involving serious personal injury.

The highway’s surface had been milled for paving but Dunn said he doesn’t believe road conditions were a factor in the crash.
