BIDDEFORD — Sister Georgeanne Doucette, formerly known as Sister Marie Roger, died at St. Joseph Convent on June 26, 2017 at the age 88.

Georgeanne was born in Grand Isle, Maine, on April 16, 1929. She was the 14th child in a family of 15 children born to Leonard Doucette and Annie Cyr. She attended Lincoln School in Grand Isle, Our Lady School in St. Agatha, and completed her High School at St. Joseph High School in Biddeford, Maine.

Georgeanne entered the Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, in August 1946 in Biddeford, Maine. After her initial formation in religious life, Sister began her teaching career in St. Joseph School in Biddeford, Maine. Seeing Sister had the potential of an excellent teacher, she was sent to study at the Good Shepherd Scholasticate in Quebec City. Upon her return to the states she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from St. Joseph College in Windham, Maine, and took several courses at Rivier College, in Nashua, NH, and St. Francis College in Biddeford, Maine.

Her teaching career of more than 25 years took her to St. Joseph School in Biddeford, St. Mary and St. Joseph School in Hamlin, Sacred Heart School in Van Buren, and St. Anne School in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Outside her teaching career, Sr. Georgeanne spent a year in Bar Harbor, Maine doing pastoral work in Holy Redeemer Parish while being in charge of the local convent and also assuming the duties of bookkeeper.

When she retired from teaching, she volunteered her services at St. Andre Health Care Facility for five years as she continued to work for the community as bookkeeper, treasurer, receptionist. She used her artistic and creative talents to enhance the community celebrations and for the Bay View Gift Shop.

Sister is survived by one sister: Geraldine Andrukevich of Hamdon, Connecticut. and many nephews and nieces.

Visiting hours will be held at St. Joseph Convent, 409 Pool St., Biddeford, Maine on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Convent on Thursday, June 29 at 1:30 p.m.

Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery under the Directors of Hope Memorial Chapel.
