
Hermia was born August 15, 1937 in Harpswell, Maine to Herman and Goldie Morse. She was a graduate of Brunswick High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Gorham State Teachers College. She then went on to earn her Master’s in Education from University of Indianapolis.
Hermia married the father of her children, Rev. Harold Tucker II, in 1961 in Harpswell. Having moved with her family over the years, she taught elementary school in Florida, Indiana, and Maine. She started and ended her teaching career at Hawthorne School in Brunswick before retiring in 2005.
She enjoyed knitting, playing scrabble, and spending time with her friends and family. In retirement, she continued to volunteer in the local schools. She was an active member of the Elijah Kellogg Church in Harpswell, having acted as the church’s treasurer, a Sunday school teacher, and volunteer over the years.
Hermia is survived by two sons, Harold Tucker III and his wife Sylvia of Topsham, Todd Morse Tucker and his wife Kristine of Seattle, WA; two daughters, Tracy Hermia Buck and her husband Mark of Indianapolis, IN, Kimberly Tucker Hodous and her husband Robert of Fayetteville, AR; a brother Sheldon Morse of Harpswell; two sisters, Evangeline Sparks of Harpswell, Cynthia Hunt and her husband Edward of Phippsburg; nine grandchildren, Lindsey T. Fugitt and her husband Beau of Abilene, TX, Alexandra T. Nimmo and her husband Wesley of Fayetteville, AR, Robert T. Hodous of Bentonville, AR, Jordan T. Giacalone of Fayetteville AR, Erin B. Kriel and her husband Jordan of Greenwood, IN, Amy B. Haneline and her husband Chad of Greenwood, IN, Lucia E.Y. Tucker and Willa M.M. Tucker of Seattle, WA; three great-grandchildren, Emerson Kriel, Elle Haneline, Beau Connor Fugitt. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Chelsea Tucker Hodous.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Elijah Kellogg Church in Harpswell. There will be a reception following the service at Hermia’s cottage in Harpswell. Memorial contributions can be made to the Children’s Ministry at Elijah Kellogg Church, 917 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell, ME 04079.
