Michelle Lester, publisher of The Times Record, announced Thursday the promotion of Outside Account Executive Mark Shipsey to advertising director.
Shipsey joined The Times Record’s sales team in October 2015, and has been covering Brunswick businesses. While he will continue in that role, Shipsey will also be assisting in the development of the advertising team and the advertising product line.
Shipsey and his wife of 27 years, Susan, decided to come to Maine after visiting the state on business in 1998. However, it took 15 years to make the move, as Shipsey experienced several career and life changes. His career path included a stint in the music business where he toured and worked in artist management, as well as a time as an operations manager/head project manager in the exhibit fabrications field. The Shipseys also took time to raise a family, including a son and two daughters.
Four years ago, however, the Shipseys made the move to Maine from Susan’s hometown of Nashville.
Invited to apply for a sales role at The Times Record, Shipsey initially wasn’t too excited about the prospect. He had a negative perception of the career field and wasn’t terribly certain about the product. However, he soon learned that the role allowed him to do what he enjoys most: help people and develop beneficial, reciprocal business relationships. He was also surprised to learn how effective the newspaper is in engaging members of the community.
“Mark’s contribution to The TR has been significant, especially when one recalls that he never worked at a newspaper prior to The TR,” Lester said. “I am excited to pass over many of the dayto day advertising department tasks/responsibilities with complete confidence that he will tackle them with finesse and dedication. This will free up my time to continue to build on our community involvement, a critical component in staying relevant in this day and age.”
In addition to his role at The Times Record, Shipsey has served on the Main Street Bath Board of Directors for the past two years and has led the design committee for that organization for four years. He enjoys playing baseball and the outdoors. He can be reached at (207) 504-8254 or at [email protected].
