PHIPPSBURG — The Albert F. Totman Library in Phippsburg is hosting a book talk with Maine author Ron Chase on July 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library. Chase will be discussing his book, “The Great Mars Hill Bank Robbery.”
This true-crime biography chronicles the life of Bernard Patterson, a decorated Vietnam War veteran who, in 1971, robbed the Northern National Bank in Mars Hill. Patterson escaped with $110,000, which was the largest bank robbery in the history of Maine at the time. Chase’s book explores the life, motives, and mystery surrounding both the historic robbery and the man behind it.
The library is at 28 Parker Head Road, just off Route 209. Call (207) 751-4075 for more information.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
