HARPSWELL
Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire that broke out at a Harpswell home Saturday.
The single-story house at 12 Longley Drive is owned by Kevin Bichrest, who was home with his family when they discovered the fire and dialed 911 at about 7:30 p.m.
Cundy’s Harbor Fire Chief Ben Wallace said the fire started near a computer in a bedroom. Wallace said firefighters contained the blaze to that room, though there was minor smoke damage in the home.
The fire department turned the home back over to the homeowner, however Wallace recommended the family stay somewhere else for the night to let the house air out.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
