ROCHESTER, N.H. — Portland scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat New Hampshire 8-3 and finish 2-1 in pool play at the Babe Ruth Baseball 13- to 15-year-old New England Regional on Sunday.

Portland advances to the elimination round of the tournament as the top seed from Pool A.

It’s first game is at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Portland took the lead when Garon Kelley scored on an RBI single by Robby Sheila.

Kelley earned the win with three scoreless innings and Mike Jones pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the win.


SOUTH PORTLAND 8, SACO 0: Aiden Lee hit a three-run homer in the first inning and South Portland defeated Saco in the 11/12 Little League Baseball State Tournament in Westbrook.

Nolan Hobbs and Andrew Heffernan each hit home runs for South Portland in the third inning.

Heffernan earned the win, allowing two hits and no walks with six strikeouts over 52/3 innings.

Saco plays at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday against the winner of Lincoln against Lewiston, which takes place at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.

South Portland plays in the championship round at 7:05 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Saco vs Lincoln/Lewiston.


SANFORD 9, VALLEY 3: The Mainers (14-23) scored six runs in the first inning and defeated the Blue Sox (19-16) in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

Logan Wyatt led Sanford with three hits and four RBI. Shaine Hughes added three hits, and Bryan Sturges scored three runs.

Perez Knowles (3-0) earned the win, allowing one with and one walk with two strikeouts in 32/3 innings of relief.


SURGE SWEEP REDBIRDS: Parker Franklin hit a walk-off RBI single in the seventh inning to lead Old Orchard Beach (15-15) to a 3-2 win over Plattsburgh (18-11) in the second game of a doubleheader sweep in Old Orchard Beach.

In the first game, Kevin Putkonen put Old Orchard ahead 1-0 on an RBI double in the third.

Trailing 2-1, Plattsburgh tied it in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Josh Martinez.

In the second game, Matt Picucci struck out 11 batters and allowed just three hits and the Surge won 3-1.

James Simpson and Gevon Jackson each had RBI singles for Old Orchard Beach.


ON TARGET 11, AERO 1: Travis Godbout struck out eight batters to lead On Target (5-13) over AERO (9-9) in eight innings in Cumberland.

Matt Toth RBI double in the first inning helped On Target take an early 2-0 lead. Godbout hit a two-run single to highlight a six-run seventh inning for On Target.

Elijah Fish hit an RBI double for AERO in the seventh inning.
