GORHAM — Former University of Southern Maine women’s lacrosse standout Lauren Lessard (Lewiston, Maine/Kents Hill) was among the 532 student-athletes representing 159 institutions named to the 2017 IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association) Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll. The IWLCA announced its annual academic honors Wednesday afternoon.
To be eligible for the IWLCA academic honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student, and have a cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 3.50 or higher. This is the second straight year that Lessard has received the IWLCA honor.
A recent graduate with her bachelor’s degree in exercise science, Lessard compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.88 while playing lacrosse for four seasons. This past spring, Lessard was the Huskies’ second leading scorer tallying 35 goals and dishing out 18 assists for 53 points. A three-time captain, Lessard played in 66 games in her career over four seasons scoring 130 points on 87 goals and 53 assists.
