Donald A. Campeau, 79, of Bonita Springs, Florida and formerly of Dresden, Maine, left this world unexpectedly on Friday, July 28, 2017. Donald was born in Lewiston, Maine on June 8, 1938 to the late O’Neil and Jeanette Campeau.

He attended Lewiston Schools and served in the United States Army, including a tour of duty in Germany. He was well respected during his career at Bath Iron Works and retired after 27 years. After his retirement he worked as a driver for Uplift Inc., which provides services and transportation to those with developmental disabilities. Don loved his time there and remained with them for 10 years. Through his work with Uplift, he was given the opportunity to work with Special Olympics, which brought him so much joy.

Donald was a Past Worthy President of the Gardiner Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was very proud of his affiliation with his fellow Eagles and took his commitment and involvement very seriously. He liked to stay busy and enjoyed playing pool, woodworking, and gardening as well as other hobbies like building models and making wind chimes. He was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

On July 15, 1978 he married his soul mate Judy Walton Murray. Together they loved to spend time with their families, always there for their children to help and support when needed. They also had a great passion for traveling. Don and Judy had recently moved to Florida to enjoy their retirement and the warmer weather.

Don is predeceased by his parents and brother Robert Campeau.

He is survived by his loving wife; daughters, Donna St. Amand and husband Roger of Litchfield, and Lisa DeCamillis and husband Cody of Portland; sons, Walton Murray and wife Rhonda, and Brian Murray and wife Holly, both of Richmond; sister, Anita Fantozzi and husband Norman of Norway; sister-in-laws Margaret Korhonen and husband Bill, Dee Churchill, and Debbie Blackwell and husband John; brother-in-law Philip Walton and wife Jane; twelve grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren; three very special cousins, Claudette Brown, Arthur Montana and wife Carol, Nel Montana and wife Gail; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend Ben Lizotte.

Donald’s children would like to express their sincere gratitude to Debbie and John Blackwell and Angela Ison for their love and undying devotion to their dad.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Staples Funeral Services, 53 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner, Maine from 11:00 am – 12:30 on Wednesday, August 2nd.
