SANFORD — In their last game of the 2017 season, the Sanford Mainers fell 4-1 to the Keene SwampBats. Keene would win the season series with Sanford 3-2, and will advance as the third seed in the NECBL Northern Division with the win.

Ben Greenberg (Fordham) would get the start on the mound, and would go four innings of scoreless pitching while giving up just one hit.

Sanford would see work from Ian Burns (Columbia), Ben Lambert (Assumption), Will Bryant (Endicott), and Mark Connor (Clarkson). Burns would get the loss, going .2 innings and giving up three runs on three hits and a strikeout.

All three runs for Keene would be scored on four singles and an error, all strung together in the fifth inning. The SwampBats would score their fourth run of the ball game on a double and an error, as the Mainers defense would commit three in the losing contest.

Sanford would be halted early by the SwampBat pitching staff, but would finish tied for hits with the victors at seven apiece.

The Mainers would score their only run of the game in the eighth inning, after Carmine Pagano (UNC Asheville) would reach on a leadoff single and steal second. After two quick outs, Jimmy Kerr (Michigan) would push Pagano across the plate with a big RBI single.

Sanford would get one last chance in the ninth inning. A Jake Dexter (Southern Maine) pinch-hit single followed by walks drawn from Logan Wyatt and JT Pittman would load the bases with two outs. Pagano would record the final out, a ground ball to the right side that would end the Mainers season.

Sanford would end the season with a 17-27 overall record. The Mainers finished the season in seventh place in the NECBL North Division, and did not qualify for the postseason.

The Mainers would like to thank everyone for the continuous support in the 2017 season, and look forward to returning to Goodall Park in the 2018 summer.
