Jocey collected friends from all walks of life and across generations. Her selflessness and passion were evident in everything she did, from cooking and officiating weddings, to negotiating contracts at Bath Iron Works. She inspired and encouraged family and friends to rise to their utmost potential. A doer since birth, Jocey showed her passion for cooking at the age of 2 when she was discovered frying eggs all by herself on the kitchen stove much to the consternation of her mother and brother. As a teen, she scooped ice cream, became a manager at McDonald’s in Bath where she met some of her closest and dearest friends, and was Assistant Chef at Wiscasset’s Le Garage restaurant. Her blueberry cakes graced dozens of wedding celebrations; cookies, whoopee pies and jams filled hundreds of Christmas packages. She was sought after for her lasagna, cheesecakes, and to the delight of her nieces and nephews, Grasshopper Pie.
Jocelyn’s daughter Madison was the apple of her eye. She gave her heart and soul to nurturing this gracious young woman and many of her friends. A devoted volunteer, Jocey gave her time and expertise to Topsham groups including Girl Scouts. She was a sports team mom and community fundraiser. Jocey worked to ensure success for all involved. For the past three years, she helped to organize the Drive Out Cancer Play Day among regional high school field hockey teams to benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. This year’s Play Day honored Jocey’s positive impact on so many lives dealing with this miserable disease.
Jocelyn is survived by her husband, Lawrence Stover, and daughter, Madison Stover of Topsham. Immediate family includes her mother, Virginia Cooper of Wiscasset, and siblings, Ida Cooper Peterson and husband, Jeffrey Peterson of Falls Church, Virginia; Douglas Keniston Cooper (Jr.) of Wiscasset; Laura Cooper Chaney and husband, Michael Chaney of Alna; and Olivia Cooper of Concord, NH.
