
Bangor handed Brunswick a tough 3-2 loss in boys high school Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference soccer action on Thursday.
The Dragons fell to 0-5 and visit Morse on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Garth Berenyi converted a penalty kick 23 minutes into the contest for a 1-0 Bangor lead. The Rams doubled their advantage when Berenyi set up Damien Sheffer for a goal, and Berenyi’s second goal 10 minutes into the second half gave the visitors a 3-0 lead.
However, the Dragons didn’t quit. Emmet Taub put Brunswick on the scoreboard with 12 minutes remaining, and Lane Foushee found the cage three minutes later to get the Dragons to within a goal.
But, Rams netminder Alex Jansuwicz didn’t allow another goal, finishing with six stops.

HAMPDEN — Wyley Fitzpatrick tallied a pair of unassisted goals as Mt. Ararat defeated Hampden Academy, 3-2, in a KVAC tilt
The Eagles ended a two-game slide to improve to 3-2. Mt. Ararat visits Skowhegan on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Lily Schenk turned away six shots in the Mt. Ararat net.
Claire Scobie scored the goal for the 2-3 Broncos with an assist from Grace Bennett.
Taylor Guerrette and Isabella Gould combined for two saves on four shots.

Gardiner handed Morse its first KVAC loss of the season in a game played at McMann Field.
The Shipbuilders are 3-1 and host Erskine Academy on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
Sophie Wilson was peppered in the Morse net, turning away 42 shots.
Vanessa St. Pierre scored the lone goal for Morse in the second half. Sydney Moore had a solid game on defense.
Marlaina Stickney scored three goals for Gardiner (5-0), while Mikayla Bourassa, Aimee Adams, Maggie Bell, Sarah Foust and Lindsey Bell all added a goal.
Volleyball
AUGUSTA — The Cony Rams ended Brunswick’s two-game winning streak with a 3-0 victory.
In a close match throughout, the Rams won by set scores of 26-24, 25-18, 25-23, dropping the Dragons to 2-3 on the season, with a visit to Gardiner set for Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Kathleen Trapp had seven digs and two service aces in the loss, while Mackenzie Burrows picked up five digs, three kills and two aces. Morgan Johnson (two digs, three aces), Colleen McKearney (one kill, three digs), Abby Gauthier (three digs) and Michelle Sarber (two digs) also had solid efforts for the Dragons.
