BIDDEFORD — J. Kenneth “Ken” Gobeil, 74, of Biddeford died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born April 24, 1943 in Biddeford a son of Fernand and Berthe (Beaudoin) Gobeil and was educated locally, graduating from Biddeford High School in the Class of 1962.

Ken had been employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from 1979 until 1993 and then with the U.S. Postal Service since 1994 retiring in 2007.

As a young man, Ken was involved in almost every sport and was well known locally as a competitive speed skater; later in life he played in a pickleball league, and was a member of a horseshoe club.

Ken volunteered with the Bon Appetit soup kitchen; he served on the board of Eastwood Condominiums, and avidly followed all of his grandchildren’s school activities.

He is survived by three daughters: Michelle Boucher and her husband Marc, Cara Chase and Erin Jacques and her husband James, all of Biddeford; a sister, Patricia Callahan and her husband Robert of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania; a brother, Ron Gobeil of Biddeford; grandchildren, Alex Chase, Nicolas and Annabelle Jacques; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 at Hope Memorial Chapel 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005, followed by a service at 6 p.m. in the Hope Chapel. Private burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
