SANFORD — Two men were treated for non-life threatening injuries following an altercation on Bates Street in Sanford on Saturday night.

Sanford Police Corporal Matthew Gagne said officers were called to a disturbance, reported as a group of people fighting at about 11:30 p.m. He said the caller reported a possible stabbing.

When police arrived, they found one man with a small stab wound to the back and another who had sustained a possible fracture to the orbital socket. Both men were taken to the Sanford campus of Southern Maine Health Care for treatment.

The two victims were in their mid-20s to early 30s, he said.

Gagne said at least 10 people were in the area, milling about, when police arrived.

Three Sanford Police Department units responded, along with a York County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was in the vicinity.

Gagne said the incident remains under investigation.
