TOPSHAM

Topsham police were called to Old Farm Road Tuesday morning for an alleged road rage incident involving a knife and a gun.

Lt. Fred Dunn said a Chevy pickup truck was allegedly tailgating a Dodge pickup as it was turning from Route 201 onto the Route 196 Coastal Connector. The Dodge slowed down in response, and the two drivers exchanged hand gestures as the Chevy drove over the median to pass.

The driver of the Dodge then allegedly followed the Chevy to a home on Old Farm Road and pulled into the driveway to confront the other driver. The drivers yelled at each other, and eventually the driver of the Dodge allegedly pushed the Chevy’s driver, who then allegedly pulled out a knife, according to police.

In reaction, Dunn said the Dodge’s driver allegedly pulled out a gun.

A witness saw part of the altercation and called police.

Both men were asked to write statements. The case will be turned over to the district attorney for review but as of now, no charges have been issued, Dunn said.

Police are looking at whether the Dodge’s driver was allowed to have a firearm. The weapon was confiscated.
