WATERBORO — The Massabesic field hockey team topped visiting Sanford 3-1 on Saturday, rebounding from a tough loss to Thornton Academy earlier in the week.
Massabesic got the 1-0 lead on a goal from Kayleigh St. Laurent less than two minutes into regulation.
The teams battled throughout the remainder of the half and Emma Rutledge managed to put the Mustangs up 2-0 at the break by scoring with just three seconds left period.
The Spartans came out more aggressive in the second half, and would get on the board when Kyliegh Cote scored on a pass from Phoebe Joy to make it 2-1. Rutledge would score later in the half in the secure the 3-1 win.
Sanford goalie Amber Singleton finished with 19 saves while Massabesic’s Mady Pomerleau finished with two saves.
