WELLS — Say goodbye to Fall with the DaPonte String Quartet’s Leaf Peeper concert in the perfect place — the historic Wells-Ogunquit Meetinghouse Museum, which allows an audience to hear Beethoven and Mozart performed in the kind of setting it was originally composed for.

The Quartet will perform Mozart’s String Quartet in E Flat Major, Astor Piazzolla’s “Four, for Tango,” and Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 7 in F Major Op. 59 No. 1.

The Mozart quartet, one of his earliest, is a genial gem, followed by Piazzolla’s “nuevo tango,” a quick and lively change of pace, before the Quartet plunges into Beethoven’s  E Flat Major, which DSQ violinist Ferdinand Liva describes as formidable.

“His middle quartets drove even his performers quite crazy–to the point of the cellist storming out of the room on first reading,” he says. “So, people will want to sit tight.”

The DaPonte String Quartet moved to Maine from Philadelphia over 20 years ago on an NEA rural residency grant, fell in love with the Mid-Coast, and has been here ever since.  It performs statewide and year-round.

The Leaf Peeper concert will be performed at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Wells-Ogunquit Meetinghouse Museum, 938 Post Road, Wells.

Tickets are $25, from www.DaPonte.org, at the door, or through the Meetinghouse.
