BRUNSWICK
The Brunswick High School boys soccer team failed to catch a break during the first five games, resulting in an 0-5 start to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference season.
Since then, the Dragons have figured some things out, and Friday night’s 1-0 KVAC win over Edward Little, the team’s sixth straight, proved Mark Roma’s team is heading in the right direction.
Brunswick claimed the lead late in the first half as Everett Horch found Henry Doherty for a goal.
Brunswick goaltender Jared Hummer earned the shutout and “Man of the Match” with 10 saves. EL netminder Noah Sterling had seven saves.
OAK HILL 1
LISBON 1
Each team scored a goal in the second half as the Raiders and Greyhounds played to a Mountain Valley Conference stalemate at Lisbon on Friday.
Colby Leighton gave Oak Hill (4-5-2) a 1-0 lead with 12:43 left in regulation.
But, Lisbon (6-3-2) answered with 6:43 remaining when Nick Austin found the net.
Jonah Sautter had five saves for the Greyhounds, who host Dirigo at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
RICHMOND 8
VINALHAVEN 0
Richmond got goals from five different scorers, cruising to an 8-0 East-West Conference victory over Vinalhaven on Saturday.
Ford Strout, Matt Rines and Andrew Vachon each registered a pair of goals as the Bobcats improved to 11-0.
Nick Adams and Trystin Shea each added goals in the win. Vachon, Zach Small and Nate Kendrick all had two assists apiece, while Rines and Dustin Simmons finished with one. Richmond outshot the Vikings, 20-3.
Shea and Kyle Tilton combined for three saves in net for Richmond, which hosts St. Dom’s on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Field hockey
FREEPORT — Alexa Koenig and Natalie Anderson found the back of the cage twice each as Freeport rolled to a 6-1 Western
Maine Conference win over Gray-New Gloucester on Friday.
The Falcons are 9-3-1 heading into their regular-season finale on Tuesday at home against Greely (3:30 p.m.), while the Patriots fell to 1-11-1.
Anderson tallied twice in the first half, and Koenig and Aynslie Decker added a goal each for a 4-0 Freeport lead at halftime.
Koenig and Grace Schnyder chipped in a goal apiece in the second half.
OAK HILL 4
LISBON 2
The visiting Raiders received three goals from Desirae Dumais en route to a MVC win over the Greyhounds on Friday.
Lisbon is 2-9-2 heading into today’s regular-season finale at Dirigo (11 a.m.).
The teams played to a 1-1 stalemate in the first half, but Oak Hill out-scored the ’Hounds, 3-1, in the second frame.
In goal, Mikaylia Harnden had eight saves for the hosts, with Oak Hill’s Makenzie Thibeault turning away five shots.
Football
FAIRFIELD — Brandon Ballard scored the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter as Lawrence survived a stern test from Brunswick for a 23-20 Class B North victory on Friday.
The Dragons fell to 0-6 and host Mt. Blue this upcoming Friday at 7 p.m.
Dalton Dickey and Owen Richardson staked Brunswick to a quick 12-0 lead in the first quarter.
But, the Bulldogs (4-2) battled back to take a 13-12 lead before Brunswick’s Jack Harvey scored on a 5-yard run late in the first half to give the Dragons a 20-13 halftime lead.
Lawrence place kicker Zach Nickerson drew the Bulldogs to 20-16 with a third-quarter field goal, and Ballard pushed Lawrence ahead to stay on a 5- yard TD run in the final frame.
Richardson rushed for 200 yards on 18 carries to lead Brunswick. Sam Dorval had 11 tackles to pace the Dragon defense.
Girls soccer
VINALHAVEN — Caitlin Kendrick broke a scoreless tie with 25:20 remaining in regulation to lift Richmond to a 2-0 E-WC victory over Vinalhaven on Saturday.
Destiny Anair added an insurance goal for Richmond.

In the first of a home-and-home weekend series, the host Blue Devils earned a KVAC win over the Eagles at Bates College (turn to B1 for Saturday’s game information and photos).

The host Wildcats used a penalty kick to take control in Western Maine Conference play on Friday.
A Payton Humphrey goal gave York a 1-0 lead.
Freeport goaltender Carly Intraversato had 16 saves.
The Falcons host Lake Region on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

HALL- DALE 1
Madisyn Smith scored with 21 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift the Bulldogs to an MVC win in Farmingdale on Friday.
Lindsey Gordon had 19 saves in Wiscasset’s cage, while Maggie Gross turned away four shots for Hall- Dale.
