The Topsham Parks and Recreation Department has announced programs that are coming up shortly.

Travel Basketball

There will be travel basketball tryouts for fifth- and sixth-graders who attend school in School Administration District 75 Oct. 16 and 18.

The tryouts will be held at Mt. Ararat Middle School.

On Oct. 16, the boys take the court from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., with the girls following from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. On Oct. 18, the girls go first, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., with the boys from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Players must attend one of the two nights.

These teams play out of the Cape Elizabeth Travel Basketball League. There are weeknight practices and games on the weekends.

Players who make the teams are required to play on their respective recreational teams as well.

For players who make the teams, the registration fee is $50.

Games begin in mid- November and run through the middle of February.

Youth Basketball

This program begins Dec. 2, with play taking place for eight weeks (no games Dec. 23 and Dec. 30).

The third- and fourth-grade boys and girls divisions practice once a week, with games on Saturdays.

The fifth- and sixth-grade boys and girls divisions also practice once a week, with games on Saturdays.

Practices begin the week of Nov. 13.

This program is available to Topsham residents only, with a cost of $45.

Deadline to register is Nov. 2, and the Rec. is open until 6 p.m. on Thursdays.

The program is part of the Ararat Youth Basketball League. There will be away games scheduled throughout SAD75.

Also, the first- and second-grade coed division, along with the seventh- and eighth-grade division will have registration forms available soon at the Rec.

Open Gym

Mt. Ararat High School will once again host Open Gym Night on Sundays, beginning Nov. 5.

Players are asked to use the back entrance of the gym for access.

This is for SAD75 residents only.

From 2-4 p.m., Family Open Gym runs, with a cost of $1 per person. Children under the fifth grade must be accompanied by a parent/ adult.

Adult Open Gym will take place from 4-6 p.m., also at a cost of $1 per person.
