POWNAL — Dean R. O’Roak, 87, of Pownal, passed away at his home on Friday, October 6, 2017, with his daughters and family by his side. He was born in Sherman, Maine, on June 7, 1930, the son of Burleigh and Mattie O’Roak.

He graduated from Sherman High School. After high school he attended a meat cutting school in Massachusetts and worked in this field for a few years before going to work at the Sherman School System as a custodian. He took great pride in his family, his home and his work. Teachers and students alike enjoyed his boyish sense of humor.

Dean had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He built a lot of sports camps and sap camps. In later years, he fed any wild creature that crossed his path. He was a true humanitarian, generous in his time helping people. He will be missed by all those who loved him.

Dean is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Jackie; two brothers, Bill O’Roak and Claire O’Roak and two sisters, Corrine Bragdon and Verda Mitchell.

He leaves behind two daughters, Ellen O’Roak and Debbie Osgood and her husband Dan, both of Pownal; his much loved grandchildren, Moksha and Joel Osgood. He is also survived by his brother Walton O’Roak of Bangor and a sister, Dorothy McLellan of Sherman; and he will be missed by many nieces and nephews who he loved and teased throughout their lives.

He desired no memorial services, only that his remains be quietly placed in the ground by his daughters and their families.
