The Boston Red Sox are reportedly about to interview their first candidate for their managerial vacancy.

The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox will interview Houston Astros bench coach Alex Cora on Sunday with the Astros in New York on an off day during the American League Championship Series.

Cora, 41, played 14 years in the majors including four in Boston under Terry Francona from 2005-08.

After retiring in 2012, he became the general manager of the Criollos de Caguas in the Puerto Rican League and led the team to the 2013 Caribbean Series in his first year with the club.

This is his first year as bench coach for the Astros.

The Red Sox fired Manager John Farrell on Wednesday after Boston was eliminated by Houston in the American League division series. He guided Boston to back-to-back American League East titles.
