BANGOR — The Massabesic football team traveled to Bangor on Saturday looking for its first win since a victory over Lewiston way back in Week 7 of the 2015 season.

It didn’t look good for the Mustangs early on as they trailed the host Rams by two scores in the second quarter, but the determined Massabesic squad would rally for a 21-14 victory.

Sophomore quarterback Nick Roberge started the come back with a touchdown run in the second quarter to cut the lead to 14-7 heading into halftime.

The second half would belong to the Mustangs who tied the score late in the third quarter on a clutch pass from Roberge to senior Isaac DesVergnes. The two standouts would hook up on a fourth-down touchdown pass to make it 14-14.

The Massabesic defense would step up in the fourth quarter as the Mustangs held on a fourth-down play inside their territory to give the ball back to Roberge and company.

With under a minute to play in regulation, Roberge would go to the air and once again connect with DesVergnes on a deep touchdown pass. Roberge made his third straight extra point to give the Mustangs a 21-14 lead with just 40 seconds left.

Roberge would seal the victory with an interception on the ensuing Bangor drive.

Massabesic improves to 1-6 on the season and will wrap up the 2017 campaign with a home game against Deering (1-6).
