BIDDEFORD — The ability to cast a ballot in a municipal election is a significant aspect of our American democracy and a privilege many have given their lives to protect.

With that in mind, the Biddeford City Clerk’s Office has announced extended hours for absentee voting and voter registration for residents looking to be a part of this year’s election process.  

To accommodate voters, the City Clerk’s Office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 28, and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2 for absentee voting, new voter registration and completion of change of name and address forms.

Voters are asked to use the Main Street entrance to the City Clerk’s office on Oct. 28 and after 5 p.m. on Nov. 2.

Per state law, those wishing to vote by absentee ballot must do so by 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2.

In-person absentee voting will not be conducted between Friday, Nov. 3 and Monday, Nov.  6 unless a special circumstance exists.

Any registered Maine voter may apply for an absentee ballot and vote by mail in the municipal election.

Once a voter has received an absentee ballot, they are asked to carefully read and follow all instructions included with it, including signing and dating the ballot where indicated.

Completed absentee ballots can then be delivered to the City Clerk’s Office in person on specified days or mailed back to the address indicated on the ballot.

Absentee ballots must arrive by the Nov. 7 deadline or they will not be counted.
