BRUNSWICK

The planning board Thursday night unanimously approved a 10-lot subdivision plan on part of a recently bought swath of property on Brunswick Landing.

The board also reviewed and accepted a plan to build multi-family units in an area of Brunswick Landing originally built for Navy housing when the base was active.

On the 120-acre Brunswick Landing parcel, there are four housing areas distinguished by time period built and housing style. Included in those neighborhoods is about 35 acres of undeveloped land eyed for development, according to the plans submitted to the town. A mix of four-unit buildings, duplexes and ranch style homes would be constructed on the site, according to Sitelines Civil Engineer Curt Neufeld, representing Brunswick Land- ing Ventures.

Brunswick Landing Ventures is one of two limited liability companies that bought the property from Midcoast Affordable Housing, LLC, in June, owned by George Schott.

Four hundred and seven homes were included in the sale situated on the former Brunswick Naval Air Station property and in Topsham. The amount spent to purchase the land is unknown, but a loan in the amount of $32.9 million was recorded in Cumberland County deed records.

Neufeld, in a presentation to the board, said the reason for the subdivision is to establish new lots around existing housing areas, Mariner Landing, Brunswick Gardens, Midway Terrace and Woodland Village.

A future plan may include the development of 100 to 150 new homes.

The Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority would review design guidelines proposed by the owners. The housing would be built to meet demand in the area, with the idea to build 40 units to test the market before constructing the remaining houses. “It will be a graduated approach,” Neufeld said at a previous planning board workshop.

The planning board is scheduled to meet again Oct. 24.
