Two people were injured Tuesday evening when a pickup truck struck a subcompact car on River Road in Windham, police said.

Sgt. Jason Andrews said in a press release that the pickup truck, a 2012 GMC operated by Devon Pepin, 20, of Windham, was traveling north when it crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2009 Toyota Yaris driven by Haley Durkan, 26, of Portland.

Durkan became trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated from the wreckage by Windham firefighters, according to Andrews.

Pepin and Durkan were transported by ambulance to area hospitals following the crash. Their injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

River Road was closed to traffic for about 90 minutes. The crash, which took place in the vicinity of 495 River Road, was reported at 5:25 p.m.

Andrews said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
